What is Imdur?
Imdur is a long-acting antianginal medication indicated for the prevention of angina (chest pain) in people with certain cardiovascular disorders, such as coronary heart disease.
However, the onset of action of Imdur is not sufficiently rapid for it to be used to stop the acute episode of chest pain that has already begun. Therefore, it should not be used to relieve angina attack once it occurs.
How does Imdur work?
The active component of Imdur is Isosorbide mononitrate, which belongs to the class of medications called nitrates. When taken, isosorbide mononitrate is converted in the body to a substance called nitric oxide, which is naturally made by the body to relax and dilate the veins and arteries.
Once the blood vessels widen, there is more space and thus less resistance inside them. Dilation of the veins also decreases the volume of blood returned to the heart making it much easier for the heart to pump blood all over the body.
Are there any contraindications to using Imdur?
Imdur is contraindicated in those patients who are hypersensitive to Isosorbide mononitrate or any ingredients of this medicine. It also should not be used in those who:
