What is Tetracycline?
Tetracycline is a polyketide antibiotic with a wide spectrum. Its main ingredient is tetracycline hydrochloride, which works by inhibiting protein synthesis in bacteria, causing them to die.

How to take Tetracycline?
Tetracycline adult dosage for moderate infections is either 500 mg twice a day or 250 mg four times a day. Severe or chronic infections are treated with 500 mg four times a day.
Children over 8 years of age are administered 25 – 50 mg/kg in four divided doses.
Treatment usually lasts for 7-14 days and should be continued for at least 48 hours after subsidence of symptoms.
Pills should be taken on an empty stomach for the drug to work better. However, if it upsets your stomach, taking it with food is recommended.

What are Tetracycline side effects?
Tetracycline most common side effects are of gastrointestinal character and may include: nausea, diarrhea, dyspepsia, vomiting, lack of appetite, difficulty swallowing. It can also provoke headaches, dizziness, fatigue, photosensitivity, tinnitus, discoloration of teeth, unexplained rash and itching skin. In rare cases the drug may cause stomach cramps, watery diarrhea, bloody stool, fever, joint pain and blurred vision. When is Tetracycline contraindicated?
