What is Zestril?
Zestril is a long-acting ACE inhibitor that is primarily used to control blood pressure, treat heart attacks and congestive heart failure. It contains Lisinopril as active ingredient, which works by blocking certain enzyme in the body that causes blood vessels to constrict. How to take Zestril?
Zestril initial dose for hypertension treatment in adults is 10 mg once daily. The dosage is then adjusted according to individual response and usually ranges from 20 to 40 mg per day given in a single daily dose. The starting dose for hypertension in children is 0.07mg/kg (up to 5mg) once daily, which can be later up-titrated to 0.61mg/kg once daily (up to 40 mg).

For heart failure treatment the drug is administered in a dose of 5 mg together with diuretics. To improve survival following heart attack the drug is administered in a dose of 5 mg within first 24 hours, which is followed by another 5 mg after 24 hours and then 10 mg after 48 hours followed by 10 mg once daily for 6 weeks. Patients with poor kidney function require individual dose adjustment.
What are Zestril side effects?
Zestril may cause headache, dizziness, tiredness and lightheadedness as the body adjusts to the drug.
